Abstract
With the end of socialism, we are also witnessing the return of religion to the public sphere among Bosniaks. For them, Islam becomes a medium and a means of building a new identity. This paper analyzes the place of Islam in the construction of Bosniak post-socialist identity through the analysis of the formation of a new political elite and the relationship to the spiritual traditional heritage and the place of religion in education. The publicity of religion / Islam has influenced the overall social identity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, contributed to the restoration of freedom of religious nonaffiliation, but in its outcomes did not receive any radically new identity references.
